Lewes, Delaware ("The First town in the First State") knows how to do it right when it comes to holiday traditions and Christmas lights! I always love visiting the town and area at night during December since everybody gets involved with Lewes Lights and have their houses and retail spaces done up for the holidays from 5pm-10pm.
Last weekend my son and I did a photo walk around the town, just trying to get some photos of the town with the lights. I probably would have gotten more photos if it was just a solo trip. It was a lot of fun, and then afterwards we took a drive around Pilottown Rd and that street probably had the best decorations. Lewes isn't the only area with holiday lights up, since many decorations are up in most towns and neighborhoods. Rehoboth Beach seems more festive, as well as Milton.
I remember driving back from Annapolis, Maryland last year from seeing Carbon Leaf at Rams Head on Stage and seeing all the giant houses done up with Christmas cheer. I was happy about that since that drive is a pretty boring and dark ride otherwise.
If you're just visiting or live in the area, Lewes is not to be missed at night! Just be aware, some businesses close after 5pm but restaurants are open.
